The 5th Annual American Red Cross NO SHOW Holiday Ball!
Since July 1, 2009, our on-call volunteers have responded to nine single family fires.  Every 2 seconds, someone needs life-saving blood.  Every 3 hours, the Red Cross helps a military family in Onslow County with an emergency message.  There are at least 4 CPR/First Aid classes being taught every month at the chapter on Ruth Street.  Your generous donations will not pay for fancy napkins, pine boughs, or chocolate mouse.  Please don't come, but join the folks who will ignore the band, the need for a designated driver, the "spoofy" hairdo, soggy green beans, the disco dance ball, and don't like banquet food anyway!  We'll send you a list of everyone who "missed the ball."  We need to raise $10,000. Contributions are 100% tax deductible!...>>  RSVP

Prepare for Flu Season

To help prevent the spread of germs: wash hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.  Avoid or minimize contact with people who are sick (a minimum three feet distancing is recommended).  Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.  Cover your mouth and nose with tissues when you cough and sneeze.  If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow.  Stay away from others as much as possible when you are sick.  For more information visit RedCross.org

In 1905, the U. S. Congress granted a charter to the American Red Cross that required the organization to act "in accord with the military authorities as a medium of communication between the people of the United Sates and their Armed Forces…" since that charter was granted, the Red Cross has provided not only communications but a variety of other important services to help members of the armed forces and their families.

The Red Cross nurses and ambulance drivers served during the Spanish-American War and World War I. The Red Cross canteens welcomed American troops during World War II, and American Red Cross recreation clubs were established close to the front lines in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. During the 1990-91 conflict in the Persian Gulf, the Red Cross provided service members and there families with financial assistance, crisis intervention, support groups and a variety of other services.

Today, the Red Cross provides basis humanitarian services to Members of the armed forces, their families and veterans during peacetime and conflict on U. S. Military installations both in the United States and around the world.

Today's American Red Cross is keeping pace with the changing military. Using the latest in computer and telecommunications technology, the Red Cross sends communications on behalf of family members who are facing emergencies or other important events to members of the U.S. Armed Forces serving all over the world. These communications are delivered around-the-clock, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

While providing services to 1.4 million active duty personnel and their families, the Red Cross also reaches out to more than 1.2 million members of the National Guard and the Reserves and their families who reside in nearly every community in America.

Red Cross workers in hundreds of chapters and on military installations brief departing service members and their families regarding available support services and explain how the Red Cross may assist them during the deployment.

Both active duty and community-based military can count on the Red Cross to provide emergency communications that link them with their families back home, access to financial assistance, counseling and assistance to veterans. Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces personnel work in 756 chapters in the United States, on 58 military installations around the world and with our troops in Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq.
